About us

Word on the Sheets (WOTS) is ACON’s online sexual and reproductive health resource for LGBTQ+ communities.
WOTS focuses on creating resources by and for LGBTQ+ women, trans, gender diverse people and their partners – as our communities have historically been excluded from sexual health education. While centred on these communities, this resource is accessible and relevant for people of all genders and sexualities.
We created this resource because our sex, pleasure, sexual and reproductive health experiences are unique and mainstream health resources rarely speak to our realities.
To address this gap, we have consulted and collaborated with sexual and reproductive health specialists and practitioners to create resources that centre LGBTQ+ lived experience. We employ a parts and practices model in our health information to provide you with the information you need, without the assumptions about you or your partner/s gender or sexuality.
Here, you will find evidence-based and medically reviewed health information, stories from peers, and resources to help you explore your sexual self, created by people who’ve been there and care.
Whether you are looking for information about sex, pleasure, detailed fact sheets about STIs and how they are passed on, STI prevention strategies, contraception, abortion, lived experience stories for LGBTQ+ community members or our monthly astrology column ‘Sex and the Stars’ – we’ve got you covered.
Because it’s our pleasure.
Our approach
Always evolving
This resource is (as far as we know) the first of its kind in so-called Australia. We acknowledge that it won’t be perfect or all-encompassing from day one. We’re committed to learning, growing, and responding to community feedback. We regularly invite input from community members and health professionals to ensure we’re addressing the diverse and varied needs of LGBTQ+ communities.
We hope that over time this resource will grow and adapt as it responds to the ever-changing needs of our communities.
Partnerships
We’d like to acknowledge and thank the Department of Health and Aged Care for funding the national expansion of the Word on the Sheets project.
